Bee City USA – Pollinator Garden

This artwork honors the pollinator by bringing environmental awareness to the community while celebrating the City of Sanford being named a Bee City in April of 2023. Sponsor: Preston Communities LLC Muralist: Scott Nurkin

Wings

You’ll find the 11th mural in the Sanford Public Art series adorning a downtown Sanford wall near S. Steele St. Pose with this 15-ft. interactive piece to capture an awesome photo of yourself with beautiful, butterfly wings. Muralist: Chris Dalton.

Jonesboro Cornet Band

As a tribute to the historic Jonesboro’s music group, formed when Sanford and Jonesboro were still separate cities, this mural captures the band as it was in 1905. Muralist: Scott Nurkin

DREAM

Commissioned to spark imagination in viewers both young and old, this whimsical work features flying pigs gliding over a pastural landscape. Muralist: Chris Dalton

Fairview Dairy

In the early 1900s, Fairview Dairy provided milk to all of Sanford. The Yarborough family later opened Fairview Dairy store, which eventually became Yarborough’s Ice Cream – home to this striking 3-D mural. Muralist: Chris Dalton

Visionary Builders

This mural honors Link Boykin, a builder and business owner who built many of Sanford’s historic homes and buildings, and W.B. Wicker, an educator and the first principal of the South Sanford Graded School. Muralist: Scott Nurkin

Bringing the Arts Together

It is only fitting our trail includes a mural that celebrates over 50 years of art in Sanford. Bursting with color, the piece depicts a spinning wheel highlighting the vibrant mix of arts here today. Muralist: Chris Dalton

Tobacco Mural

This outdoor piece displays the process of taking tobacco to market. Featuring an image of a 3-D mule, it celebrates Sanford’s rich agricultural past, present and future. Muralist: Chris Dalton

Sanford Spinners

“Sanford Spinners” recognizes the athletes who played for the Tobacco State League baseball team during the late 1940s. Howard Auman, pictured in the mural, pitched in the 1946 state championship game. Muralist: Scott Nurkin

Silent Wings

Honoring Lee Roy Perry, Frank Blalock Sr. and ‘Bucky’ Williams, this work of art features portraits of the World War II glider pilots and the aircraft they flew. Muralist: Scott Nurkin

Herb Thomas & the Fabulous Hudson Hornet

This mural, depicting Herb Thomas and his Fabulous Hudson Hornet, highlights one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers. Herb was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association, International Motorsports and NASCAR Halls of Fame. Muralist: Scott Nurkin
